Academic degrees

  • Joint PhD, in April 2002, by the following institutions:
    • ``Universidade do Porto'', Portugal - Chemical Engineering PhD
    • ``Institut National Polytechnique de Lorraine'', France - Process Systems Engineering PhD.
  • Chemical Engineering License by ``Faculdade de Engenharia da Universidade do Porto'', in August 1995, with a final classification of 15/20.
  • Is presently attending the third year of a five year license in Informatics Engineering, at the ``Faculdade de Engenharia da Universidade do Porto''.
  • Proficiency in English by the University of Cambridge in 1990.

Scientific activity

  • From July to September 1994, carried out a training at ``Instituto de Sistemas e Robótica do Porto'', in non-linear optimisation.

  • From 1996 to 2002, within his PhD, worked with sucrose crystallisation, image analysis, process simulation, optimisation, laboratory data acquisition and control in the ``Faculdade de Engenharia da Universidade do Porto'', Portugal and ``Laboratoire des Sciences du Génie Chimique'', Nancy, France.

  • From March 2001 to February 2004 developed research activity at ``Centro de Estudos de Reologia e Tecnologia Alimentar do ISEIT Mirandela - Instituto Piaget'', Portugal, working with crystallisation process simulation and optimisation and development of image analysis techniques.

  • Is an Investigator at ``Instituto de Sistemas e Robótica do Porto'', Portugal, since May 2002.

  • From March to September 2004 was a Post-Doc researcher , at the ``Fermentation Pilot Plant, Novozymes A/S'', Danemark in industrial fermentation process optimisation and control, under the FP5 European Research Project ``BatchPro''.

Professional activity

  • From 1993 to 1995 was a photography teacher at ``Centro Regional do Porto do Instituto Português da Juventude'', Portugal.

  • In 1998/99 taught the informatics class to the Chemical Engineering degree in ``Faculdade de Engenharia da Universidade do Porto''.

  • From 1996 to 2000 was a full time researcher at ``Faculdade de Engenharia da Universidade do Porto'', Portugal and ``Laboratoire des Sciences du Génie Chimique'', France, financed by a grant from the Portuguese Science Foundation and the French Embassy in Portugal.

  • From September 2001 to February 2004 was an university teacher at ``I.S.E.I.T. - Mirandela, Instituto Piaget'', lecturing the classes of Food Production Technology, Process Instrumentation and Control, Introduction to Computers and Computer Programming, Numerical Methods and Fluid Dynamics to the Food Engineering and Civil Engineering degrees.
